An 8" flanged universal joint pack with an e-coat finish. A universal joint accommodates the small misalignments and movements between flanged components that a rigid connection cannot — settlement, thermal movement, and the fact that two flanges in the real world are rarely perfectly parallel. Forcing a rigid joint into that situation puts strain on both flanges and eventually cracks something. The e-coat gives corrosion protection.
