Description

A flame rollout switch, a gas appliance safety device. It detects flame escaping from the combustion chamber instead of being drawn through the heat exchanger — the symptom of a blocked flue, a cracked exchanger or a failed draft system — and shuts the gas off. Because it protects against a genuinely dangerous condition, a rollout switch that has tripped must never be simply reset: the cause has to be found first.
