Uninsulated flex is for runs inside conditioned space where there is no meaningful temperature difference across the duct wall and therefore no condensation risk. Where the duct passes through an attic, crawl space or garage, insulated duct is required instead — uninsulated flex in an unconditioned space sweats and drips.
