A roll of black electrical tape. On mechanical work it does more than insulate: taping off wiring at a control, marking and colour-coding conductors at a boiler or zone panel, bundling sensor leads, and temporarily protecting a stripped end while the job is finished. Cheap enough to keep several rolls on the truck, since it is the sort of thing that never gets put back.
