Description

An 18" thermocouple for a standing pilot appliance. It sits in the pilot flame and generates a tiny voltage from the heat, which is what holds the gas valve's safety magnet open. The logic is simple and entirely mechanical: no pilot flame means no voltage, which means the valve closes and gas cannot escape. A weakening thermocouple is the classic cause of a pilot that lights but will not stay lit.
