A 4" Ames 3000SS double check detector assembly with OS&Y valves. A detector assembly carries a metered bypass so the very small flows a large main meter cannot register are detected - which is how a leak or an unauthorised connection downstream is found. That is why they are specified on fire services. OS&Y valves show their position by the rising stem, so an inspector can see at a glance that the supply has not been left shut.
