The 3" dielectric nipple. Dielectric fitting conforming to ASTM F492-95, lead-free, rated up to 230°F — isolates dissimilar metals (e.g. steel and copper) to prevent galvanic corrosion at the joint. The zinc coating slows corrosion, which makes galvanized the usual choice where black iron would rust: cold-water service, drainage, and outdoor, structural or exposed runs.
