This 1/2" black malleable iron L/R nipple-coupling. Black malleable iron nipple conforming to ASTM A733, made from ASTM A53 welded steel pipe. Import. Black iron is the standard for natural gas and propane lines and for low-pressure steam and compressed-air piping; it is not used for potable water, where bare steel would rust.
